This online training series is a crash course and deep-dive into coding qualitative data. It offers concrete tips as well as practical experience in coding your data.
In this training series, you will:
All sessions will be recorded and materials will be sent to participants in case you are not able to make a session, you will still have access to all of the resources. Participants will receive a certificate upon completion of the entire training series.
Who is the training for?
Training Dates and Time:
Every Thursday from September 17 - October 8, 2026 from 5-7 pm CET
Training 1. Introduction to Qualitative Coding for Impact Tracking (September 17)
This two-hour introductory course covers basic knowledge of qualitative data analysis and coding. We will learn about the coding process and the difference between inductive coding and deductive coding. We will discuss different types of data that you can code and explore what coding strategies are best with different data types. There will be practical exercises to support the development of your qualitative analysis lens. This foundational course sets the stage for the subsequent more specialized trainings in this series, such as coding survey responses, interview data, and text-based documents.
Training 2. Getting more out of your survey data: How to code open-ended survey responses (September 24)
This hands-on workshop will transform how you analyze open-ended survey responses. Participants will learn practical techniques for systematically coding and interpreting qualitative survey data using software. The course will guide you through strategies to extract meaningful insights, identify patterns, and generate valuable evidence from previously underutilized survey responses. Through interactive exercises, you'll develop skills to turn raw text data in surveys into structured, actionable information that can enhance your research, monitoring, evaluation, or impact assessment efforts.
Training 3. Practicum: Coding Your Interview or Focus Group Data: Tips and Tricks (October 1)
Building on the foundational qualitative coding skills developed in previous trainings, this practical workshop focuses on analyzing interview and focus group data. Participants will learn specialized techniques for coding rich, narrative-based qualitative information using software. The session will provide hands-on strategies to systematically break down, categorize, and interpret complex interview and focus group transcripts.
Training 4. Practicum: Coding Your Grantee Reports, Text and Stories for Monitoring and Evaluation: Tips and Tricks (October 8)
This specialized training session focuses on extracting meaningful insights from text-based documents critical to monitoring and evaluation efforts. Participants will learn advanced qualitative coding techniques specifically tailored to analyzing grantee reports, impact stories, and other narrative texts using software.
Building on the foundational coding skills from earlier trainings, this practicum offers hands-on techniques to turn narrative documents into powerful evidence for impact assessment. Participants will engage in interactive exercises that demonstrate how to effectively code and interpret text data to support organizational learning and reporting.
You will get practice using a sample dataset and you can bring your own data to code for one of the exercises as well.
Pre-Registration until August 1, 2026
*Beginning August 1, 2026, regular registration for the course will cost $400 USD.
