History of ImpactMapper Sofware

10 Years of Building Tech for Good

ImpactMapper (IM) software is an all-in-one tool for donors, nonprofits, corporates, and impact investors to track their social impact and share the stories that matter most.

Founded in 2015 by our CEO, Dr. Alexandra Pittman, we have developed a platform with easy to use features to aggregate, analyze and visualize quantitative and qualitative data in ways that help organizations better understand their impact and track trends over time to inform their strategic plans, portfolios and decisions.

ImpactMapper helps users to:

  • gain insights from the data they already have--both qualitative and quantitative-- including financial data, reports, Most Significant Change stories, interviews, focus groups, surveys, excel data, etc.;
  • conduct analysis of their grantmaking, investments, or project performance over time;
  • create and access compelling data visualizations to understand what's working and what’s not;
  • improve the efficiency of data collection through our custom survey tool;
  • Share successes, learnings and best practices with a global community of change-makers using innovative M&E approaches

Our platform was built by impact sector experts to bring diverse types of data to life, to easily share information between donors and organizations. Social change can be shared in creative and exciting ways - in stories, not just numbers.

10 Years of Building Tech for Good

March 2015

Dr. Alexandra Pittman founded ImpactMapper as a company this year.
In a time when a majority of software tools used in the philanthropic sector analyzed quantitative and financial data, she launched ImpactMapper software for the meaningful analysis of text data. A passionate visionary of storytelling for impact, she worked with industry experts with a strong and diverse network of donors, nonprofits, and companies committed to human rights, equity, and social and environmental justice to build a tool that allowed users to transform text, including stories and reports, into aggregatable insights that are aligned with their strategic plan, log frame, or theory of change outcomes and indicators.

2016

ImpactMapper software first MVP was launched to the market.

Fundo Elas supported ImpactMapper in developing an in-kind translation of the beta-version of the software in Portuguese.

October 2018

ImpactMapper announced a deepened partnership with Oak Foundation. Oak Foundation committed $624,000 for three years (2019-2021) to support the development of ImpactMapper’s survey tool, and their grantees’ monitoring and evaluation (M&E) capacity.

2019

Arcus Foundation supported ImpactMapper for tech development and API integration with Fluxx grants data.

July 2022

ImpactMapper was awarded a grant by Malala Fund. The one-year grant of $140,000 for ethical AI represented the launch of a new phase in ImpactMapper’s text analysis tool and to start developing a pilot tool for more automated text analysis for the philanthropic and nonprofit sectors.

March 2024

ImpactMapper launched a new API with Trint, generously supported by Winthrop Rockefeller Foundation, to build effective technology tools for the philanthropic ecosystem. After users record an interview, focus group, or grantee reporting session in Trint, they can automatically import Trint transcripts into ImpactMapper for deeper analysis and visualization. This real-time integration saves users valuable time, ensures they always have access to the newest reports and interviews and helps to ensure that transcripts are analyzed and used for impact reporting.

December 2024

ImpactMapper launched ImpactMapper Surveys.

ImpactMapper launched its first Artificial Intelligence software features:
Auto-translation and AI Insights.

July 2025
