Recognizing the negative impact multiple funding cuts to international development and humanitarian aid programs have had on women’s rights, gender equality and human rights protection this year, the Association of Women’s Rights in Development (AWID) hosted a free webinar with Justice Funds Co-Founder, Paz Romero and ImpactMapper’s CEO, Alexandra Pittman to highlight new funding databases that support feminist and women’s movements and organizations at this critical moment.
3 key initiatives were shared:
- AWID’s Who Can Fund Me? Database features an open source list of 200+ funders primarily interested in supporting resource mobilization to feminist movements and activists working for gender equality and gender justice in different parts of the world. The free access database can be filtered by regional focus, type of funding, type of funder and grant duration. You can search the database here: https://www.awid.org/feminist-funding-resources
- Justice Funds is a curated and social-justice focused list of funding opportunities and resources monthly to support grassroots initiatives, non-profits, and community-driven projects. Co-Founder and AWID’s Member, Paz Romero, in collaboration with AWID’s Who Can Fund Me Initiative launched the free digital resource “Getting The Money We Need: A 101 Guide on Fundraising for Small Grassroots Organizations” offering insights to individuals and organizations on grantmaking processes, fundraising tips and how to better communicate impact data and attract donor organizations. - Launched on May 1, 2025, ImpactMapper’s 2025 Funding Database features 270+ grant opportunities, some of which were launched to address international funding cuts and gaps as well as normal funding opportunities. Some of the funding opportunities listed are direct responses to aid cuts and others are general funding opportunities that have emerged recently. The database is updated on a weekly basis. There is a detailed taxonomy to make the database more searchable according to users' needs including areas for issues funded, regions, type of fund, type of funder, if funds are open to the public or only for current grantees or if funds are a result of endowment increases, spend downs or emergency responses.
